Waiting for the call....

Early in the morning when it is still pitch black outside, there are Super Sub's in their homes across America starring at their telephones willing it to ring .....or not. These substitutes are waiting for the call that will determine if they will get to play dress up and pretend to be a teacher for the day. More than likely at this ungodly hour of which the Super Sub must rise to see if they are in fact are the chosen one; the Sub's are still in their pajamas, not the super capes just yet.

After starring at the phone for a few hours, a school may call asking if you are available to work on that day. If you agree to the assignment, you will receive directions to the school and the time of your expected arrival. It would be a good idea to ask what grade level or subject area you will be teaching if that information is not provided to you. Having this information will help you prepare for your class.

There are times when a substitute is called the night before or given a long term positions. Savor these happenings! It can be rather discouraging when you have laid out your clothes for the day, down to the matching earrings and belt, have your lessons plans ready, lunch is packed and you realize there is nowhere to go.
